The UK isn't part of the EU. As an American, if I were looking to launch a startup in Europe, I'd prefer a country that's part of the EU. The Netherlands seems like a strong contender due to its strong startup ecosystem, central location, government support, and a highly educated workforce. Being part of the EU offers access to a large market, funding opportunities, and ease of movement across member states.

Going from America to the UK seems like a marginal improvement, whereas going from America to the EU seems more like a significant improvement.

Ireland has its advantages, such as a favorable tax environment, supportive government initiatives, and being part of the EU, but being on the continent allows for better alignment with neighboring countries like Germany, Belgium, and France, providing easier collaboration and market penetration. Continental Europe has a higher concentration of cities with strong educational institutions and tech hubs, making it easier to attract and retain top talent.

This Irish American would recommend going Dutch! :)
