Show HN: Cursor Directory – From a 3-hour build to a 250k users/mo community
cursor.directoryViktor and I built the first version of Cursor Directory in just 3 hours, right after I watched a few downloaded YouTube videos on my flight to France. The idea was simple: create a single place to find curated rules to enhance the Cursor experience.
Fast forward a few months, and the site kept growing. We recently added support for MCPs, a Trending board, the ability to generate your own rules from dependencies, and more!
We’d love to hear your thoughts—let us know if you have any ideas to make Cursor Directory even better!
Oh, and we’re fully open source!
At the time that I read this thread, there were 14 comments, of which 13 were posted by users whose median karma was only 68. Does anyone have an explanation for this?
Yes. I don't spend much time here.
First you need to tell us what do you think that means
Last time I used Cursor - a few weeks back - .cursor/rules was still very flaky (for me, and apparently for a ton of people on the forum) and poorly-documented. Anyone know if they’ve managed to iron it all out yet? I really love the idea but ime the execution was severely lacking. I ended up cancelling my subscription in frustration.
I can confirm, the rules aren't any better. what I do is have a main prompt that just tells the model to adhere to the rules and lists them out. It doesn't really work.
I cannot identify a single cursor rule for client side React that is not Nextjs. Even 'generalist React' includes it. That just doesn't work for me to grab one off the shelf, but I appreciate the examples.
Adding a way for people to submit new rules directly on the site tomorrow!
Sorry, I am a noob here and just learning to use cursor. How do we use the prompts in the cursor directory?
You can copy one of the rules or just use the download button and place it in .cursor/rules directory!
This is great! I've been using Cursor Directory pretty much since it's inception a few months ago and it's great to see it come this far this quickly. Will be diving into the code, kudos on making it OS!
Would love to see a blog and maybe some documentation as to how to create MCPs
Thank you! The Community really helps us forward on what to build! More soon!
Have also used it since day one. Impressive to see what it has become, hopefully just the beginning!
Thank you! Just the beginning!
Why doesn't your MCP catalog contain a server for working with cursor.directory?
brewing!
How did you grow your community and how long did it take to reach 250k users/mo?
Word of mouth! Live stats here: https://dashboard.openpanel.dev/share/overview/a5hhbY?range=...

...did you not use Cursor to build it?
Started when I landed! With Cursor..
